Peel Ports expands UK warehousing
Peel Ports is adding one million square feet of Grade A warehousing across Liverpool and Glasgow
Peel Ports is set to create more than one million square feet of additional Grade A warehousing across its UK network, responding to growing demand for strategically located storage capacity.
The phased investment will deliver around 92,000 square metres of new space, equivalent to approximately 13 football pitches, with the initial focus on the Port of Liverpool and King George V Dock in Glasgow.
“Our customers are increasingly looking for high-quality storage space located close to our network of ports, and demand continues to grow across a number of critical industries,” said David Huck, chief operating officer, Ports & Marine at Peel Ports Group.
The largest element of the programme will be a new 900,000 sq ft (around 84,000 sqm) warehouse at Liverpool, alongside upgrades to existing facilities. A further 100,000 sq ft (around 9,300 sqm) facility will be developed at King George V Dock in Glasgow, strengthening the group’s warehousing capacity across the UK.
The investment comes as businesses reassess supply chains amid changing global trade patterns and increasing requirements for resilience. Port-centric warehousing can help customers reduce transport movements, improve operational efficiency and gain direct access to major import and export routes.
Demand is particularly strong among fertiliser, chemicals, defence, manufacturing and bulk commodity customers. Peel Ports has also reported a significant rise in fertiliser-related enquiries, as importers and distributors seek reliable and accredited storage solutions to support agricultural supply chains.
Peel Ports said the new facilities will also provide specialist storage and compliance capabilities for chemical customers and secure logistics infrastructure for defence-related supply chains.
The programme builds on more than 1.6 million sq ft (around 149,000 sqm) of Grade A warehousing developed by Peel Ports over the past 15 years, including facilities at Liverpool and London Medway.
The company said the latest expansion will strengthen its integrated port-centric logistics offering, combining warehousing with shipping, rail and road connections to support UK and international supply chains.
