US Navy invests in intelligent video system
Following the USS Cole attack in 2000, the US Navy was compelled to install intelligent surveillance systems for in-port force protection and late last year contracted ObjectVideo to develop a mast-mounted in-port video force protection surveillance system for maritime applications in crowded or hostile port environments.
The contract, worth $3.2m, is for a simple-to-use system with a high probability of detection of specified events, low false alarm rates and not requiring expensive rewiring of the ship’s systems. ObjectVideo will address these needs with two types of intelligent video surveillance-based configurations. The first is a rapidly deployable system designed to meet a variety of Naval, United States Coast Guard and Military Sealift Command vessel standards, and the second integrates the world’s highest resolution Omni-camera, with an automated capability and ObjectVideo’s Intelligent Video Surveillance capabilities to offer a greater situational awareness for lock-and-leave surveillance, deck management and port facilities surveillance
Under the terms of the contract, ObjectVideo will install the intelligent video surveillance systems, train the ships’ crew in the use and maintenance of the systems and provide ongoing technical and training support.
