Port of Brownsville business park

The port says this latest project will provide local manufacturers and industries with storage capabilities combined with access to multimodal transport.

“The business park at the Port of Brownsville is a critical component in our mission to attract new industries and businesses to the area, creating jobs, and driving economic growth,” said Brownsville Navigation District chair Esteban Guerra.

“On behalf of our Brownsville Navigation District Board of Commissioners, we are proud to lead this endeavour to provide modern infrastructure, access to transportation and logistics, and a prime location for companies looking to establish a presence along the US/Mexico border.”

The only deepwater port on the border, the Port of Brownsville moved 15.2 million tonnes of cargo in 2022.

Other projects under way include expansion of patios, rehabilitation of docks, and the Brazos Island Harbor Channel Improvement Project, which will deepen the Brownsville Ship Channel from its current draft of 42 to 52 feet (12.8 to 15.8 metres).

Mexican company Forza is currently building a new US$60 million manufacturing facility at the port whilst NextDecade’s multi-billion-dollar proposal, Rio Grande LNG, is anticipated to be the largest privately funded infrastructure project in Texas.
