Hurricane Ida has caused havoc for container operations in Louisiana, US.

Container operations at the Port of New Orleans’ (Port NOLA) Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal Complex are due to resume on Tuesday 7, following a week’s shutdown due to the extreme weather.

“New Orleans Terminal operations are currently CLOSED and will resume operations with limited gate and terminal operations on Tuesday, September 7.

“Ports America operations are currently CLOSED, and will reopen with limited gate and terminal operations on Tuesday, September 7,” said Port NOLA.

The port, which shut down container operations on 30 August, said it resumed limited cargo and vessel operations, beginning with breakbulk vessel cargo, on 2 September. New Orleans Public Belt Railroad (NOPB) operations have also resumed with modified hours.

Port crews, terminal operators and tenants continue to prepare facilities for the resumption of operations more broadly.

On 30 August, Port NOLA said initial reports indicate no major damage to its facilities.

Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal operators include Ports America, LLC and New Orleans Terminal, LLC. The terminal has 840,000 annual TEU capacity. Expansion footprint provides capacity up to 1.5m TEUs per year. Milan Street terminal is used as a container freight station for New Orleans Terminal’s Napoleon operations.
