The African nation of Malawi looks is set to lease a terminal at the port of Nacala in the north of Mozambique. The country is landlocked, so has no gateway port of its own. Similarly, Botswana has signed a deal with Zimbabwe and Mozambique for a new rail and port project, subject to financial closure, which includes a new US$1.5bn port at Technobanine, south of the Mozambique capital, Maputo.
