Smart software tool enhances port planning
A new predictive software tool is being developed to help the Port of Milford Haven, UK better anticipate and adapt to changing demands on the Waterway.
Funded by the UKRI Industry Impact Fund, the project is a collaboration between the port and the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Hartree Centre.
This collaboration will enable the port to make more informed decisions and optimise resource allocation, said the port.
“This work is an integral part of our strategic future planning activities,” said head of Energy and Decarbonisation at the Port of Milford Haven, Tam Bardell.
“With this software tool, we will be able to collate and analyse shipping forecast, environmental and performance data to help inform our commercial and operational decisions.”
The tool will use data analysis, programming, and machine learning to enhance capacity planning through a modelling system and user-friendly interface, aiding in strategic resource management.
“We’re excited to work with the Port of Milford Haven on this project to demonstrate the value that digital technologies like supercomputing and data science can have on transport and logistics,” said Louis Rowland, business development executive at the STFC Hartree Centre.
“This is a prime example of how cutting-edge technology can drive impactful change in critical sectors.”
The project, which began in July 2024, is scheduled to run until March 2025.
