Teesport named world’s best dry bulk port
PD Ports has been recognised by industry experts at the prestigious International Bulk Journal Awards, where its Teesport Bulks Terminal on England’s east coast was named Best Dry Bulk Port.
The award highlights the terminal’s significant innovations and investments in people, infrastructure and equipment, establishing it as a global leader in the efficient and sustainable handling of dry bulk products.
The International Bulk Journal Awards, held this year in Antwerp, attracted entries from major ports and logistics providers worldwide. PD Ports triumphed over stiff competition from top ports in the UK, India, the UAE and Canada.
“We are proud to receive this award against tough competition,” said Grant Honzik, business unit director – Bulks, at PD Ports.
“It is testament to our commitment to excellence, efficiency and innovation in the handling of dry bulk cargo and to the hard work of our team, whose skills and unwavering commitment allow us to achieve the highest standards in all operations.”
Over the past decade, Teesport Bulks Terminal has undergone a transformation. The terminal now features 28,000 sqm of covered warehousing, 890m of deep-water quay, a bulk rail freight terminal and an in-house bulk transport service.
It handles millions of tonnes of dry bulk products annually, including agribulks, aggregates, biomass, fertiliser and construction materials.
Recent investments include an £8.6m upgrade with two electric, rail-mounted Liebherr cranes. Teesport also continues to improve productivity through technologies such as automated weighbridge systems and the TBA CommTrac terminal operating system.
