The Port of Rotterdam Authority is making it easier for bio-based businesses to connect to the supply of power, power network, tank storage and water at Maasvlakte 2 with a ‘Plug and Play’ area.
In cooperation with E.ON, Evides Industriewater, Stedin and Vopak, the Authority will create an 80 hectare area where they will offer mains services to businesses that want to set up in the ‘bio-based cluster’, to help save time and money.
Sjaak Poppe, press officer, told GreenPort: “We noticed that it is easier for customers not to have to go shopping at a lot of different suppliers but have only one for each utility."
Hans Smits, CEO, Port of Rotterdam Authority, added: “Bio-based industries are indispensable to the sustainable development of our port. Besides the benefits of scale, businesses can take maximum advantage of each other’s presence in our ‘bio-based cluster’. The residual product from the one can be the raw material for the other.”
The port told GP it doesn’t have any contracts yet, but is in talks with a number of companies.
