£10M Peel Ports Birkenhead Terminal revamp

Now operated by Peel Ports Logistics, the site will be transformed into a modern logistics hub with around 300,000 sq ft (28,000 sqm) of indoor and 160,000 sq ft (15,000 sqm) of outdoor storage capacity.

“We are both restoring its heritage and transforming it into a vibrant, modern logistics hub. The Mersey region is firmly at the heart of UK trade, and restoring Eastfloat will allow us to keep meeting the demands of the most complex and challenging cargo movements.”

The redevelopment works, scheduled over the coming years, will significantly expand and modernise the terminal’s warehousing and cargo-handling facilities.

Located just 7km from the Port of Liverpool, also owned by Peel Ports, Eastfloat will serve domestic and international markets with improved efficiency and connectivity.

The upgraded facility will handle a wide variety of cargoes, including bulk, steel, timber, containerised goods, heavy lift, project cargo and renewables equipment. A dedicated container handling and devanning operation is already in place, offering both indoor and outdoor storage solutions.

Investment in new plant and machinery, including the installation of a Liebherr 180 crane, is underway. Peel Ports is also exploring development opportunities across the site, such as the potential installation of two cement silos with a total capacity of 14,000 metric tonnes.
