Brownsville channel deepening boosts capacity

The completion of the Brazos Island Harbor Channel Improvement Project has expanded the operational capacity of the Brownsville Ship Channel, enabling larger vessels to carry heavier cargo while improving navigation safety and efficiency

The project deepened the entrance and jetty channels from 44 feet to 54 feet (13.4m to 16.5m) and the main ship channel from 42 feet to 52 feet (12.8m to 15.8m), placing the Port of Brownsville among the deepest deep-draft ports in Texas.
