Indonesia’s Belawan New Container Terminal (BNCT) has appointed Egis to deliver a technical assessment of its powerhouse building, a key facility supporting operations along the strategically vital Malacca Strait.
Backed by a consortium including DP World, Pelindo and the Indonesia Investment Authority, BNCT plays a central role in regional and global supply chains, handling cargo flows through one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors.
Under the contract, Egis will evaluate the current condition of the powerhouse and propose strategies to improve resilience and operational efficiency. The scope includes detailed geotechnical investigations to assess subsurface conditions, alongside non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques to analyse structural materials without interrupting terminal activity.
“This appointment highlights our commitment to enhancing Indonesia’s maritime infrastructure,” said Remon Moerman, managing director for Indonesia at Egis. “We aim to fortify the terminal and ensure it supports global trade through the Malacca Strait while embracing sustainability.”
The assessment is expected to provide recommendations aligned with international best practices, helping extend the facility’s lifespan while supporting uninterrupted port operations.
