A major infrastructure project to transform logistics in the Red Sea region is under way with the laying of the foundation stone for a new logistics corridor linking Jeddah Islamic Port and the Al-Khumrah Logistics Park.
The project, valued at over SAR 689 million (€156 million), is a strategic move to boost efficiency and capacity in the kingdom’s transport sector.
The new 17 km corridor, executed by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), features two lanes in each direction and includes the construction of 12 bridges, bypassing the city’s internal road network, to enable seamless truck movement and significantly reduce traffic congestion and urban pollution.
Once completed, the corridor is expected to increase Jeddah Islamic Port’s handling capacity by 10%, support multimodal transport integration and reinforce supply chain infrastructure. Additional features of the project include emergency access points, maintenance facilities and a full rainwater drainage system.
This initiative aligns with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub connecting Asia, Africa and Europe. The corridor will enhance cargo flow, improve container handling and offer new investment opportunities, benefiting transporters, importers, exporters and logistics service providers alike.
Jeddah Islamic Port, a key trade gateway on the Red Sea, spans 12.5 square kilometres and houses 62 berths with multiple specialised terminals.
