Johor Port Berhad, a member of the MMC Group, has officially launched its newly expanded liquid jetty facilities in a major infrastructure milestone for Malaysia’s maritime sector.
The ceremony, held at the port and officiated by Tuan Mohd Masni Wakiman, district officer of Johor Bahru, marks a significant step in Johor Port’s ambition to become a premier liquid bulk hub in Southeast Asia.
“This development not only expands our operational capabilities but also strengthens our ability to support our key partners,” said Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, chair of Johor Port Berhad. “It positions Johor Port as a future-ready maritime gateway aligned with regional and national infrastructure goals.”
The RM140 million (€28.6 million) expansion began in October 2023 and includes two new liquid jetties capable of handling vessels up to 120,000 dwt.
Purpose-built to support the growing demand for edible oil and liquid bulk transport, the jetties add 5 million tonnes of handling capacity per year, increasing the port’s annual throughput potential to 20 million tonnes.
Advanced features include CCTV surveillance, fire-fighting systems, a dedicated operations room and a 25-line pipe rack. The jetties also support Class 3 cargo and are adaptable for future Class 1 operations, with marine cranes, emergency showers, oil boom deployment zones and full Wi-Fi coverage.
Completed in Q2 2025, the project underscores Johor Port’s long-term commitment to being a key player in regional trade and logistics.
