PD Ports plans UK offshore wind hub

The proposed £200 million project will unlock 180 acres of development space within the Teesport complex, the UK’s sixth-largest port.

A key feature of the development is a proposed deep-water riverside quay up to 1km in length with unrestricted access to the North Sea. The quay will be suitable for both floating and fixed-bottom wind installation vessels and will support all currently operating and planned offshore construction ships worldwide.

Although the project is in early stages and subject to variations on existing marine and planning consents, PD Ports has already secured the necessary permissions to extend the berth and develop a 15.5-metre-deep mooring.

PD Ports is engaging with OEMs, offshore developers, government and industry stakeholders to shape the site’s strategic vision and explore funding.

The Teesport Offshore Gateway promises to future-proof Teesport, enhancing its role in bulk and container handling and placing it at the forefront of the UK’s green energy infrastructure.

“We firmly believe that a facility such as this will lead to significant job creation – driving growth, employment and skills training opportunities in our coastal communities,” concluded Calje.
