Peel Ports joins Aluminium Federation

The move follows a record-breaking year for steel imports at the Port of Liverpool and signals Peel Ports’ ambition to expand its footprint in the aluminium sector.

The company aims to offer smarter, port-centric logistics that reduce road miles and emissions by using its coastal and short sea shipping capabilities across its seven ports and 24 terminals.

“We are pleased to become the only UK port operator in membership of ALFED, in a move that underpins our commitment to creating a greener, more productive and sustainable supply chain,” said David Huck, chief operating officer at Peel Ports Group.

“This partnership aligns with our strategy to support the growth of key sectors, including aluminium, by providing smarter logistics and better connectivity to the UK’s industrial heartlands.”

Nadine Bloxsome, chief executive of the Aluminium Federation, welcomed the announcement. “We’re pleased to welcome Peel Ports Group into ALFED membership,” she said.

“Their operational knowledge of port infrastructure and logistics adds a valuable dimension to our network, particularly at a time when efficient and sustainable supply chains are a growing priority for many members.”

Peel Ports already handles significant volumes of steel, aluminium and other metals across its network. Its steel imports business is up more than 35% year-on-year.
