Tonga unveils modern resilient port

Tonga has unveiled a modern, climate-resilient international port following the successful completion of a landmark maritime infrastructure upgrade by consulting engineering company Haskoning and construction firm McConnell Dowell

The upgrade of Queen Sālote International Wharf, which handles 95% of the nation’s imported goods, has transformed the ageing facility into a modern gateway capable of handling larger vessels and increased cargo volumes.

The upgraded wharf has more than doubled Tonga’s port efficiency, accommodating vessels up to 220 metres long and handling up to 45,000 teu annually.
