American company Maritime International has developed a new style of marine fender made entirely from scrap tyres. Its ‘raw material’ is recycled waste tyres which would otherwise be sent to landfill, and the resulting product is being used by Shell, Kinder Morgan, Port of Los Angeles, Valero, Cargill, Motiva, Ergon, Total Petroleum, Capital Terminals and the Port of Alabama.
