The Ocean Cleanup, based in the Netherlands, has launched a new pollution containment boom which has been designed to remove plastic from the ocean.
The 100m long boom, which will now be tested in the North Sea, has been designed, produced and delivered by DESMI.
DESMI and The Ocean Cleanup partnered together to create the boom to try to tackle the growing volume of discarded plastic in the ocean.
“Plastic in the world oceans is a serious problem and we want to be involved in initiatives that can remove this plastic from the ocean in the future. It is our future and the future of our children and grandchildren that we need to think about,” said Henrik Sørensen, CEO of the DESMI group.
“This is a good cocktail. Cleaner oceans, better environment, and two fantastic companies joining forces – I am sure that this will be a huge success for humans, animals, and our global environment.”
DESMI has a history going back more than 180 years and for more than 30 of these, it has delivered equipment for spill collection.
It has been involved in several oil spill projects over the years which have involved collection from both sea and rivers.
