The deputy Vietnamese prime minister has ordered the Ministry of Transport to expedite the clearance of imports and exports that are building up at ports serving Ho Chi Minh City.

The backlog has developed as a result of an unprecedented increase in import traffic. At Cat Lai Port, for example, imports rose by 43% in the five months to the end of May; at VICT throughput grew by 40%.

Meanwhile, DP World reports that it has signed an agreement to look into the construction of two ports and a logistics park in Thailand.

A feasibility study will be undertaken over the next 12 months. The ports, which will be situated on the Andaman Sea and in the Gulf of Thailand, will also be linked by the land corridor.
