Samsø calls for turn-key LNG solution

The Marine Competence, Technology and Knowledge Transfer (MarTech) LNG project, which aims to provide LNG knowledge and technology for the Baltic Sea region, is calling for a company to supply and deliver the necessary equipment for the daily bunkering of LNG to the ferry, to supply and deliver LNG to the ferry and provide necessary training of the vessel crew to allow them to carry out the daily bunkering procedures.

“One of our primary aims of the project MarTech LNG is to support the formation of a LNG supply chain in the Baltic Sea region,” said Charlotte Vinding, project manager, MarTech LNG.

“The pre-qualification asks for a turn-key solution which will enable bunkering daily at the harbour of Hou, Denmark. Furthermore, the successful candidate will have to include the necessary installations to comply with the need of a daily bunkering in terms of possible storage/supply of LNG and the necessary training of the personnel handling the LNG on a daily basis,” she added.

The pre-qualification period will end on 17 February 2014. Following this, the Municipality of Samsø and its technical advisors will select companies that will be invited to participate in the tender process.

MarTech LNG is an European Union Strategy for the Baltic Region (EUSBR) flag ship project involving partners from Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Lithuania and Germany.

The new ferry, which is being designed by the Denmark’s OSK-Ship Tech AS and will be built for the Danish municipality, Samsø Kommune, will operate between Jutland and the ‘green’, CO2-neutral island of Samsø and will carry passengers, cars and trucks.

Tthe vessel is expected to be operational by 2014.
