Auramarine’s new equipment is helping the shipping industry switch to lower-sulphur fuel to meet new stringent emission rules, due to come into effect in 2015.
The company’s new equipment consists of three units: FO Supply Unit, MGO Cooling System and Auramarine Fuel Selector. These have been designed to help make the switch from heavy fuel oil (HFO) to marine gas oil (MGO), which contains just 0.1% sulphur, “both safe and easy”.
Auramarine’s Cool System reduces MGO’s temperature and increases the thickness to a level that meets the engine’s requirements. This allows almost any vessel to make the switch.
“The switch must not jeopardise the lubrication of the engine and thereby the engine’s service life”, Auramarine said.
Its Fuel Selector automatically controls the HFO/MGO change-over process and ensures the temperature change of fuel entering the engine, which must not change by more than 2°C a minute, is slow enough.
The Fuel Selector equipment also allows for data reporting for the use of the shipping company and relevant authorities. The overall functioning of the system can also be monitored.
New sulphur emission levels will become effective in the Baltic Sea, the North Sea, the English Channel and North America.
