Six gang up on APM at Tin Can Island

Following the Nigerian governments decision to award APM Terminals the concession to operate Tin Can Island container terminal, six local shipping lines have put together a consortium which aims to set up a rival box handling facility. Alraine Nigeria Limited, Wasa, Hullblyte Elder Demster Agency, Blue Funnel, Transcap Nigeria Limited and African Steam Ship have founded the so-called Tin-Can Island Port Terminal Limited company, which expects to commence operations by the end of the year.

High oil prices and international moves to support environmentally friendly product and services were key drivers in the creation of this cranes, according to the company.

The group has come together to ensure that APM Terminals does not have a monopoly on business at the port and also in response to the worse-thanexpected improvement in container handling since the Danish-based company commenced operations.
