Six new vessels for Fednav

In partnership with Sumitomo Corporation, the 35,000 tonne bulk carriers will be built in Oshima Shipyard. The new vessels which are expected to become the flagships of Fednav’s fleet have been specially designed and equipped to navigate through ice and offer environmental improvements.

Paul Pathy, president and co-CEO, Fednav, said: “The environment is one of our top priorities when we consider the design of a new vessel. It is very important to us and also to our customers that our vessels not only respect but exceed environmental regulations in Canada and worldwide.”

Each vessel will contribute to Fednav’s aim to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in its fleet. They will be equipped with efficient engines which will consume 20% less fuel and produce 20% fewer emissions than vessels built by Oshima Shipyard for Fednav ten years ago. The engines will also reduce Nitrogen Oxide levels by almost 20% and will receive DNV ‘Clean Design’ classification to denote the ships’ environmental profile.
