Port software specialist Navis is upping its cybersecurity focus with the rollout of a Product Security Incident Response Team alongside the publication of a single document focused on security.
Announcing the launch, Michael Robinson, principal architect at Navis, said that Navis is actively addressing the “worst that can happen”.
“Since we’re into more and more connections between products and third parties, we have to think about how secure they are,” he said. “We have to take this extremely seriously.”
The new Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) is being rolled out in May and is described as a “parallel processing team working on security issues”. PSIRT will follow a five-point cycle consisting of discovery, engineering analysis, mitigation/fixes, notification/advisory and customer retrospectives.
“The big concern with any application you have is the size of the surface area that is exposed,” Mr Robinson said. “This is all about having clean and secure communications between us so that we can address issues.”
He conceded that Navis needed to improve its ability to get best practices on software security out to customers and hoped that the release of a single security-focused document alongside the launch of PSIRT would help address that.
