29 diesel-electric Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers, all equipped with the Konecranes Noell twin-lift spreader, are being delivered in two batches to APM Terminals Barcelona to help the terminal reduce its CO2 emissions while maintaining efficiency. APM Terminals Barcelona already operates Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers.

“APMT is a major global operator of container terminals and I’m very pleased that APMT granted us this order,” said Peter Kania, head of straddle carrier sales at Konecranes Port Cranes. “The machines will be manufactured and pre-tested at our factory in Würzburg, Germany, with all the care and quality that we are known for.”

The straddle carriers on order have a lifting capacity of 50t, lifting containers 1-over-3, with a maximum travelling speed of 24 km/hr. They are all equipped with a PLC system that features the Konecranes Noell Creon-S safety controller and a next generation engine that will allow APM Terminals Barcelona to save on fuel and reduce emissions.

The first batch of 16 machines were ready for acceptance in June 2019 and have been dispatched, the second batch will be ready in October 2019
