The latest deliveries of Liebherr mobile harbour cranes have underlined a strong demand for innovative and green cargo handling solutions in Scandinavia for the crane expert.
Swedish energy company Fortum Värme was searching for a reliable solution to unload bio fuel for its new combined heat and power plant in Stockholm, Sweden.
Because the crane needed to be installed very close to the city centre of Stockholm, there were very strict requirements, not only with regards to the noise level, but also regarding appearance.
Furthermore, Fortum Värme defined a very strict performance guarantee on the crane to guarantee lowest possible downtimes, because up to 190.000 households in Stockholm rely on the on the combined heating and power plant being operational at all times.
In order to comply with the requirements Liebherr delivered a fully electric driven portal slewing crane, type LPS 420. Fitted with a 50m³ Verstegen grab and Liebherr’s hybrid drive system Pactronic, the four rope LPS 420 is able to efficiently unload up to 2.240m³ bulk per hour.
The second delivery went to the Port of Aabenraa, which over the last three years has increased its demand for heavy lift operation rapidly.
It decided to swap its existing LHM 280 for a stronger model, the LHM 550. The four rope machine is driven by a 750kW Liebherr diesel engine which complies with the latest emission standards Tier 4 final / stage IV. With a maximum lifting capacity of up to 144 tonnes, the crane will be mainly used for bulk operations and heavy lifts.
Another crane upgrade has gone to Risavika Terminals, at Stavanger in Western Norway, which was looking to further increase its container throughput. It replaced its existing LHM 320 with a two-rope LHM 420 to be mainly used for container handling and heavy lift operation.
