An Indian heavy-duty tyre manufacturer walked away with a top accolade at Dubai’s Terminal Operator Excellence Awards.

Balkrishna Industries Ltd (BKT) won the “Port Tyre Manufacturer of the Year” award for achieving various parameters with its products, including technological innovation, product performance, durability, sustainable manufacturing and ease of recycling.
BKT says that respect for the environment and the use of renewable energy sources are essential values for the company.
All its sites operate in full compliance with environmental standards and are certified according to the ISO 14001:2004 standard for Environmental Management Systems. BKT tyres are manufactured in compliance with the European Directive REACH regulating and controlling the use of chemicals.
Near the BKT sites of Bhiwadi and Chopanki, the company has set up a plant for the production of wind energy meeting 40% of the need of its manufacturing plants in North India.
At its new Bhuj site, systems to reduce environmental impact have been installed including a combined heat and power plant (CHP) for regenerating renewable energy, as well as a water recycling plant.
BKT supplies port application tyres to most of the major terminal operators in the Middle East region including Jebel Ali, as well as to major ports in other parts of the world.
It has recently launched a new range of port radial tyres including the Portmax PM 90 for reach stackers, Portmax PM 93 for straddle carriers and Liftmax LM 81 for forklifts.
