A technology deal will help realise a project to massively expand the capacity of a Canadian container terminal.

INFORM will deliver three optimisation modules from its Syncrotess solution range for container terminal operations as part of DP World Vancouver's 'Centerm Expansion Project' to increase the handling capacity at its Centerm container terminal at the Port of Vancouver by nearly 65% to 1.5m TEU.

This capacity shift is expected to increase the terminals footprint by just 15%. To achieve this, the terminal has undergone significant reconfiguration works, multiple road work projects, and the extension and modernisation of their intermodal rail facilities.

Joel Werner, director, engineering & projects at DP World Canada, said: “The scope and scale of the Centerm Expansion Project is a significant undertaking, which will significantly increase the capacity of the DP World Vancouver terminal.

"Real-time optimization of the intermodal yard operations is a key component of the project; as such, we are excited to have selected the INFORM solution. This advanced technology supports our vision of creating a highly efficient and responsive terminal operation to better serve our customers.”

Work commenced in April and the Syncrotess technology is expected to be delivered in early 2021. DP World Vancouver has selected three optimisers for use at its Vancouver facility including a train load optimiser, rail scheduler, and vehicle optimiser.
