New lift trucks will boost container handling efficiency
The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) has ordered a fleet of Konecranes port equipment to save fuel and boost efficiency.
Two Konecranes Liftace empty container handlers, one Konecranes reach stacker and two Konecranes forklifts will equip its terminal located in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies.
“As we continue to develop our terminal, the new Konecranes equipment can help us to improve our efficiency and maintain our long-term responsibility to local trade and commerce,” said Robert Ramsubhag, CEO PPOS, a strategic business unit of PATT.
Strategic move
This is the first time PATT has ordered Konecranes lift trucks, but they’ve been operating a Konecranes HMK 300 E Mobile Harbor Crane for some years. This new range of lift trucks will give PATT more flexibility in its container handling options.
Patt’s terminal at the Port of Spain is the largest multi-purpose port on the island and as such is an important Caribbean shipping hub.
This key role in regional logistics requires a small fleet of reliable container handling equipment to ensure maximum efficiency throughout 24/7 operations. When looking to update their lift truck fleet, PATT selected Konecranes, with the support of regional dealer Genar Inc.
Each of the two empty container handlers is a Konecranes Liftace 5/6 ECC 9, a powerful, durable and safe yard tool that can lift up to 9 tonnes.
The reach stacker is an SMV 4632 TC6, with a strong, box-type chassis and wide drive axle with a long wheelbase for high stability, safe handling and long-lasting performance.
One of the forklifts is an SMV 15-1200 C, a light machine with a short wheelbase to ensure easy maneuverability in the more restricted spaces of the shipyard. The other forklift is an SMV 37-1200 C, with a medium-length wheelbase for mid-range loads of up to 37 tonnes. Its cabin has been customised with a lateral sliding feature for extra visibility when handling non-standard containers.
All five vehicles are equipped with TRUCONNECT Remote Monitoring which follows each truck’s performance through information such as operations and usage data, fleet optimisation and container mass.
