With pressure on ports to both reduce emissions and fuel consumption, ''greener'' units like Kalmar''s hybrid straddle carrier are gaining attention.
Tilbury Container Services, who operates at the Port of London, is putting a toe in the water by specifying that one of its six Kalmar 7th generation ESC W straddle carriers is to be fitted with the Pro Future hybrid technology package.
The company is also keeping the option of upgrading the others at a later date.
