At this year''s World Dredging Congress XX (WODCON XX), industry experts will gather to look at new innovations and ways to restore and enhance the natural environment.
The congress, which is organised by the World Organisation of Dredging Associates (WODA), will be attended by manufacturers, universities, contractors, port and harbour authorities, government agencies and public authorities working in the dredging, maritime construction and related fields.
With the expected effects of climate change and the increasing demand for energy and minerals, WODA says the dredging industry must look at ways to improve the natural environment while meeting project objectives.
The congress is organised once every three years, and has been set up to look at the importance of dredging to social and economic development.
WODCON XX, titled The Art of Dredging, will showcase some 120 technical papers covering new innovations and approaches, while the technical programme will focus on seven main topics, including alluvial and deep sea mining, environmental issues, management and economics, management of sediments, methods, equipment and techniques and regulatory issues.
Gordon Rogelio, head of dredging operation at the Panama Canal Authority will give the keynote presentation on the historial background of dredging and current expansion works.
The congress will be held in the Square-Brussels Meeting Centre, Brussels, Belgium from 3-7 June 2013.
