DP World welcomes closer ties with Türkiye

DP World has welcomed the recent announcement and believes the agreement will deliver on its aim to increase trade between Türkiye and the UAE to US$40 billion over the next five years.

Rashid Abdulla, CEO of DP World Europe, said: “The comprehensive economic partnership agreement between the UAE and Türkiye provides the framework for businesses to explore new opportunities and build stronger partnerships, to expand operations, reduce costs, and tap into new markets.”

Over the past two decades, DP World has been committed to UAE – Türkiye trade with significant investments at its intermodal facility in Yarimca whilst its Jebel Ali Port accounted for 93.25% of the total US$8.9 billion in 2020 trade between the two countries.

Since the CEPA negotiations began in 2019 Türkiye has moved from the UAE’s tenth largest trading partner to its sixth for non-oil trade, with bilateral trade now reaching US$18.9 billion in 2022.

DP World’s Yarimca container terminal in the İzmit Gulf is one of the largest in the country with a capacity of 1.15 million teu and is one of the few facilities capable of berthing the world’s largest container ships.

The business also offers end-to-end logistics and supply chain solutions to customers through a new entity, DP World Logistics, which was established in Türkiye in 2022.
