Finland''s Wärtsilä has received an order to supply a complete propulsion solutions package for a series of LNG carriers being built for Danish transporter of petrochemical gases and natural gas liquids, Evergas.
The DRAGON 27500 vessels, which are being built at the Sinopacific Offshore and Engineering (SOE) shipyard in China, will operate mainly on LNG using Wärtsilä’s dual fuel engine technology. This will allow them to comply with current and upcoming environmental legislations, including the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) Tier II regulations.
It will also allow the vessels to use various conventional fuels in addition to LNG, while the integrated LNG fuel systems will enable the vessels to operate on natural gas independently of the cargo carried.
Aaron Bresnahan vice president of sales, Wärtsilä Ship Power, said: “The customer's essential requirements for these vessels are to achieve the operational and fuel efficiencies needed to optimise their operating costs. The cargo handling system, the gas supply system, and the propulsion machinery are fully integrated with each other and will make the vessels the most modern and environmentally sustainable LNG carriers ever built."
Efficiency and fuel savings will also be gained through the Wärtsilä Energopac rudder which streamlines the water flow form the propeller, lowering resistance and increasing propulsion power.
