Pacifica Shipping’s recent change in vessel capacity has seen Ports of Auckland initiate a review of the ongoing viability of its Onehunga operation.

Having previously made a weekly call at Onehunga with the Spirit of Resolution, the coastal carrier has since relocated operations to the main Waitemata seaport given the larger size of its replacement, the Spirit of Independence.

Ports of Auckland senior communications advisor Dee Radhakrishnan says the relocation has caused a “significant reduction in business” for Onehunga and confirms the port company is “assessing the options”.

Auckland Stevedoring Company was also placed in voluntary liquidation following the loss of Pacifica’s Onehunga business.
