The 2013 GreenPort Congress clearly identified that to achieve an environmentally responsible port sector, port users need to communicate more.

The 9th GreenPort Congress will therefore focus on improving the relationship between the ports, its users, customers and stakeholders, who will all be involved in the programme.

The following sessions will be included:

Customers, users and stakeholders perception of a Green Port: commercial and community stakeholders reflecting on the expectations from a green port, including ship owners, shippers, logistics providers, terminal operators, local community, environmental NGOs

Tools for green ports to respond to stakeholders’ expectations – working groups:
Green logistics/hinterland connections: Environmental footprint of port logistic chains; Green services/Infrastructure
Incentives to green port users: Differentiated port dues; Green clauses in concessions and lease agreements
Communications and reporting: sustainability reporting; website information

Meeting the forthcoming challenges for green ports – working groups:
Air Quality: LNG; Shore side electricity; Port projects targeting air quality
Water quality: Ballast water; Scrubbers; Port projects targeting water quality
Waste: Cargo residues; Scrubbers sludge; Black and grey water

Global versus regional regulations on shipping related aspects and impact on ports: Debate on the roles of IMO, the European Commission and regional conventions in regulating shipping. What is the impact on ports? Recent examples: sulphur, greenhouse bases, ballast, ship recycling.
