UAE/Uzbekistan collaboration

The ports group and SEG have pledged to develop logistics infrastructure and services that will enable Uzbek and SEG’s refined products to reach global markets at competitive rates. AD Ports will also be opening an office in Uzbekistan, the group’s first in the central Asia region.

Capt. Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and Group CEO, AD Ports Group, said: “This is a major new agreement that will help transform trade and logistics for Uzbekistan, which has a fast-growing economy and rich natural resources.

“Our strategic investment in infrastructure and capabilities will help support international companies by opening new points of entry into Central Asian markets and ensuring the highest levels of service and support.

Under the agreement, the companies will create a partnership for logistics and freight forwarding services including intermodal freight forwarding, road, rail and air transport services, the development of inland ports and container depots, warehousing and other logistics infrastructure, contract logistics and custom clearance.

The joint venture will also put to use new technology and processes to address the challenges caused by Uzbekistan’s double-landlocked geographical location, surrounded as it is by five also landlocked nations.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed to support the development of an integrated food storage and distribution hub near Samarkand International Airport to help ensure central Asian food security.

The UAE and Uzbekistan signed a bilateral MoU to promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise in June 2022. The expanded strategic partnership covers 27 sectors, including finance, education, the economy, government leadership, food security and agriculture, ports and customs.
