Malaysian port increases throughput

A joint venture between MMC Group and Netherlands-based APM Terminals, PTP has focused on sustainability in recent years, introducing automation initiatives such as the Asset Digitization Program, collaborating with scientists on the Prime Mover Automation project as well as encouraging more women to join its workforce, especially as terminal equipment drivers.

The milestone was recorded late on 31 July 2022 when final monthly throughput volume hit 1,001,819 teu. ““This achievement is the result of outstanding dedication and commitment from everyone to set up the right and sustainable business conditions especially in applying advanced technological strategy in our day-to-day operation and focus to delivering integrated customer services to our stakeholders,” said Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, PTP chair.

Marco Neelsen, PTP chief executive said that PTP was continuously reviewing and refining its strategic direction to ensure sustainable growth.

“Our concerted efforts to grow is accompanied by significant emphasis on our port asset upgrades and infrastructure works aligned with our ESG agenda and digital strategy roadmap,” he said.

PTP has also recently partnered with the United Nations Global Compact Network to further embed sustainability practices in all areas of PTP’s business and operation.

Earlier this year, PTP became the first container terminal in Malaysia to surpass 11 million teu throughput volume in a year, further strengthening its position as one of the top 15 global ports.
