MONGLA RULED BY MAFIA
Bangladeshs parliamentary standing committee overseeing activities at the Shipping Ministry noted in a recent report that the port of Mongla is effectively Mafia controlled. The Shipping Ministry is therefore unable to introduce measures to improve port operations.
First phase investment will require US$100m to develop roads, a 600 metre long quay, a reservoir, a bonded warehouse and upgraded power supply, allowing the facility to open by 2007.
The committee issued a series of recommendations one of which suggested a reduction in manpower of up to 50%.
