Southeast Asia forum inks 26 projects
Port and shipping companies from China and Southeast Asian countries have agreed to strengthen cooperation in a bid to handle increasing volumes at the fifth Pan-Beibu Gulf (PBG) Economic Cooperation Forum, a participant told PS.
These agreements aim to promote cooperation by launching new routes, boosting port storage and cargo transportation facilities and will involve the construction of 26 ports in the region said Charlie Chu of Regional Container Lines.
The government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region plans to earmark Yn6bn ($886m) this year to support these 26 port development projects, Pan Wei, director-general of the Guangxi Communications Department, told the Forum. This will include further development of the Qinzhou Bonded Port District and Fangcheng Port.
The Forum bills itself as a new platform for the economic integration of the logistic network in Southeast Asia. With Beibu Gulf in Guangxi as its centre, it includes the Chinese provinces of Guangdong and Hainan and the ten countries in the Association of South East Asian Nations.
