Disinterest in Indonesian projects
Only one of 12 ports offered by Indonesias National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) has received interest from potential investors as part of potential public-private partnerships.
The tourist port of Tanah Ampo attracted a bid, but projects in Rembang, Maloy, Teluk Sigintung, Kumay, Lupak Dalam, Pelabuhan Anjir Kelampan, Bojonegoro, Pelaihari Coal Terminal, Belawan, Kuala Enok bulk terminal and Tanjung Perak received no backing from investors.
Bureaucracy is said to have to stunted interest, with the private sector needing to work with central and regional government, as well as the presence of state port operator Pelindo. However, the Ministry of Transport is developing two ports – Rembang and Maloy – using the state budget.
