China to fund Bangladesh projects

China is backing construction of a new deep sea port at Sonadia, near Coxs Bazar in Bangladesh, and a project to build a new highway from the Indian port of Chittagong to Kunming, in China. Bangladesh relies on the Port of Chittagong for external trade, with under-utilised Mongla port the only alternative.
