Bangladesh’s Shipping Minister has put forward plans to boost efficiency at the port of Chittagong by the end of 2010, kick-starting the project with consultations with stakeholders.

Chittagong Port Authority and the Parliamentary standing committee on shipping have been asked to submit their recommendations on short-, mid- and long-term plans, specifically on boosting capacity, cutting theft, dredging, personnel management, equipment acquisition, providing multi-level parking for imported vehicles, quickening delivery speeds, and the introduction of a port police force.

It has been long recognised that the port suffers from poor management.
