Mundra SEZ wins east-coast coal project

Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone (MPSEZ) has won a contract to develop a coal import terminal at Visakhapatnam.

The terminal, which will be developed on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis at East Quay-1 aims to handle coal imports of around 6.5 million tonnes per annum.

Visakhapatnam port, the company’s first on the east coast of India, is well placed to serve the local industries and power plants located in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and eastern Maharashtra.

The company already operates India’s largest multiproduct facility at Mundra as well as one in Dahej. MPSEZ, is also developing operations at Hazira and Goa. The port operator is expected to have all three planned terminals – Hazira, Goa and Visakhapatnam – operational by 2013.
