NMP protests rental hike
Indias Shipping Ministry has been asked to intervene in the dispute between stevedores at New Mangalore Port and the Tariff Authority for Major Ports, which has attempted to increase port rentals retrospectively as of 2007.
This has upped rentals from 50% to 84% on paved, unpaved and covered areas on both long term and short term rentals.
Stevedores point out that it would be impossible to recover these hikes from clients, given that most contracts are time-bound.
