New RTGs for Manila
International Container Services Inc. (ICTSI) in Manila will soon take delivery of eight brand new rubber tired gantries (RTG) for the new Berth 6 operation due to open next year.
The RTG delivery is worth $10.7m and will arrive in two batches at Manila’s International Container Terminal (MICT). This investment, together with the new operation at Berth 6, will increase the MICT’s annual capacity from 1.9m to 2.5m teu.
The order will increase the terminal’s RTG fleet to 45 – the largest in the Philippines, and on a level playing field with other ICTSI operated terminals across the globe.
The Kalmar RTGs employ the latest technology to provide maximum efficiency and are configured to provide one over five high stacking and six containers plus roadway wide.
Container handling operation speeds are higher than existing cranes but with less noise and lower exhaust emissions. It is estimated that these RTGs will yield fuel savings of at least 20% compared to the current fleet and they require less maintenance.
In addition to this, an order has been placed for two new ZPMC super post-Panamax quay cranes, also to enter into operation at Berth 6 next year. The cranes are capable of lifting containers on 18 container wide vessels.
