ALL CLEAR FOR DPI AT KOCHI
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved a revised proposal for the establishment of an international container transhipment terminal at the Indian port of Kochi.
First phase investment will require US$100m to develop roads, a 600 metre long quay, a reservoir, a bonded warehouse and upgraded power supply, allowing the facility to open by 2007.
The 30-year concession has already been awarded to Dubai Ports International which will take the project forward as a BOT contract.
DPI offered a 33.33% share of revenue to the government. However, it subsequently wanted to scale down revenue sharing to 25% for the first few years, mainly because it was not convinced of the adequacy of the supporting infrastructure.
