Cambodia joins EDI revolution
The approval of a grant package extension from Japan will allow Cambodia’s ports to install Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) in its ports.
Grant aid of $11.8m has been confirmed for the purpose of “implementation of the project of development of [a] port EDI system for port-modernisation”, Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Previously, Cambodia and Japan signed off on a loan to develop a container port at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.
Cambodia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn told the Khmer Times news website that the loan was being provided to contribute to the government’s Rectangular Strategy Phase 4 and that there was a specific focus on “improving logistics systems and enhancing transport, energy and digital resources”.
No details were given on where the money would be spent. Japan had previously said it hoped to have EDI enabled by March 2021.
