Cambodia requests Laem Chabang access

The Cambodian Commerce Minster has called on Thailand to consider giving Cambodia access to the Laem Chabang port.

Pan Sorasak said Thailand should consider allowing his country’s agricultural products to transit to Laem Chabang port in Chon Buri for export in a third country.

Currently, Cambodian agricultural products are not allowed to be transported through Thai Ports.

The minister also called for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be signed between the two countries to ensure the flow of trade between the ports.

According to local news sources, he said that is no agreement is struck between the two countries it would be a major setback for Cambodia. The country’s local producers are currently finding it hard to export through products through the Sihanoukville port which is too far away.

It is hoped that the agreement will save Cambodia time and costs on exports.
