The order followed Clydeport’s winning a contract to offload and store paper reels from Scandinavia for use in the Scottish printing industry.”We chose Barloworld Handling as we have always received good support from them and they have a vast experience of the attachments we required for the new contract,” says Clydeport’s warehouse supervisor, Michael Graham.

“The electro hydraulics and the wet brakes system mean that the truck is more responsive. The most important feature, though, is the return to set tilt where the mast returns to a position where the paper handling attachment is level, thus ensuring that damage to the paper reels is kept to an absolute minimum.”

The forklifts are fitted with a 5,900 mm two-stage mast to store the reels (weighing from 500 to 2,800 kgs) either six or eight high, depending on size.

For onward despatch from Greenock, the operators on the forklifts use scanners to identify which reels are required and then take them, using a double reel handler, to the loading bays. At this point, the job is taken over by H5.5FT – a forklift that is fitted with single reel handlers, one of which is rotating to allow it to load the reels in a horizontal position.
