Continental speciality tyres prove their worth

Continental says its recently introduced Commercial Speciality Tyres (CST), SC20 Mileage+ and SC20 Energy+, are proving successful in helping companies in the logistics sector achieve economic success.

The SC20 Energy+ is designed for low rolling resistance, while the SC20 Mileage+ is designed for challenging applications

One such user is Germany-based freight and logistics company, CHI Deutschland Cargo Handling International, which says the reduction of energy costs is a key issue for the company. A low-rolling resistance of forklift truck tyres has significant influence on the energy efficiency since it essentially extends the battery life of electric vehicles.

“If tyres do not keep what they promise, it can lead to serious consequences in terms of cost efficiency and time management,” explained Dr Michael Maertens, managing director, Continental CST.

An entire fleet of forklift trucks moves more than 25,000 tonnes of cargo at CHI in a storage area of more than 40,000m² per month. CHI says with an average runtime of 4,000 operating hours, the tyres are therefore exposed to a lot of stress.

“We rely on energy-efficient solutions from Continental,” said Martin Obert, facility manager, CHI. “With the SC20 Energy+, we have found a tyre that efficaciously supports our sustainability strategy with its efficiency and durability.”

Designed for low rolling resistance, the SC20 Energy+ features optimised rolling properties which enables the heat development inside the tyre to be minimised, said to ensure the best durability, even in heavy use.

Elsewhere, the SC20 Mileage+ is also proving popular. Continental says this tyre is specifically designed for challenging applications and is characterised by its high mileage, an improved abrasion performance and high cutting resistance. The rubber compound with short sulphur bridges is said to reduce wear and extend the tyres’ service-life.
